1) Salvation: Success on the journey means starting at square one. Securing our place in eternity as well as a personal relationship with Jesus Christ has to be the first step.
2) Scripture: The solution to every problem in life can be found within the Word of God. Search through Scripture as if you are hunting for hidden treasure. When you discover the right verse – use it. Apply it to the situation that you are facing.
3) Men / Band of Brothers: Every man is made up of both strength and weakness. Admit your weaknesses and shortcomings. Ask God to show you your strengths and ask Him to use both your strengths and weaknesses to glorify Him. Surround yourself with men in your life who are strong where you are weak. Encourage and strengthen them as they do the same for you. Ecclesiastes 4:12 Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A chord of three strands is not quickly broken.
4) Leadership: Leadership is hard because everybody is unique. …but God designed men to be leaders. Details matter – Get to know people on a personal level. We build trust when we show that we care about what matters to others. Leadership is not a title someone gives you. It is earned by showing people how much you care.
5) Childish things: Growing up means replacing the frivolity of youth with the mantle of responsibility. Accept that the carefree days of childhood are going to be replaced by the self discipline that is gained through dependence on God.
(Jordan) will go through three "trials" that signify the transition. A gift will be given at the completion of each trial. The entire event should take 30 minutes to an hour and will involve everybody present – kids and adults. The entire event is meant to affirm each boy by providing a memorable experience that will be more than just a short message that is quickly forgotten.

The Beginning: (#1 - Salvation)
The event will not be formally announced. We will tell the boys we are heading down to the beach for a game that we have set up. When we get almost there, we will encounter someone who is stuck underneath a log. We will frantically scramble to dig him out and have Jordan be the one who pulls him out from under the log. (Gift: Card)
Scripture: (#2)
This will take place on the beach. A couple of guys will get there early and hide 20 tins along with one of the gifts. Jordan will be given the metal detector in order to locate the hidden objects. He will then give each tin to the teams and they will need to match up the life dilemma to the matching scripture. The first team to match all sets of card correctly is the winner. We will then hop in the van and head back to camp (Gift: Bible)

Men / Band of Brothers: (#3)
When we get back to the campsite, we will announce another game. Put a bowling ball on the ground and have everybody form a circle around it. Everybody has to pick up the ball as a group. Each person must have their hand on the ball, not just a finger. (Make statement that John and I played a similar game at father / daughter.) Try a couple of times and be strict about everybody touching it. Declare the game a failure quickly and announce we will try something else. Circle up again and give the twine to Jordan. Call out a positive character trait and tell Jordan to throw the ball to someone he thinks fits that trait. Then call out something negative and toss the ball to the person claiming the trait. If no one will, switch back to the positive. Each person must hold onto the twine while throwing the ball so that the twine makes a complete circuit. The game is over when there is no more twine. Then grab the bowling ball and drop it in the web to see if it will support the ball. (Gift: Letters)

Leadership: (#4)
Announce a new game. Jordan is the leader. He must split everybody into two groups and divide them with a line. Give a visor to everybody in one group. He must call out statements of things people have in common and if that statement fits, they must switch sides. If only one person moves, the statement is invalid and he must make another statement. The game is over when ALL of the members of each team have moved to the opposite side of where they started from and there is NO team member stranded on the wrong side. Jordan has to accomplish the task in 25 statements or less. (Gift: Journal)

- Salvation - Explain the significance of the rescue. We all need to be rescued from our sin. If not, none of the other “good things we do in life will matter. This needs to be the first thing we deal with – securing our place in eternity. (Present Card?)
- Explain scripture – All of the answers to life’s problems can be found in scripture. You might need the wise counsel of other Christian brother to help find the right verse to make the right decision. There is treasure buried in scripture – search it with the same fervor. Apply what you learn to your life – put it into practice. Psalm 119:9 How does a young man stay pure? By obeying your Word. (Present Bible)
- Band of Brothers – Every man is made up of both strength and weakness. [David and his band of mighty men / Daniel and his “gang” who stared death in the face.] What is in this case is from some of your band of brothers. It is meant to encourage you and offer you some of the wisdom and advice your dad is not here to give you. (Present Case-letters)
- Leadership - God designed men to be leaders, but leadership is hard because everybody is unique. Details matter – Get to know people on a personal level. We build trust when we show that we care about what matters to others. Leadership is not a title someone gives you. It is earned by showing people how much you care. Use this journal daily – write down the things you discover in Gods Word. Also write down what you discover about the people God has put in your life so you can help remember what is important to them. (Present Journal)
- Childish Things – I Corinthians 13:11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. We are recognizing Jordan today for the man he has become. Write some of the things that are childish in the journal and then tear that page out and throw it in the fire.
- Prayer of blessing - Ask the men to surround Jordan and lay hands on him and pray a prayer of blessing. I will close.
